At Gunness and Burringham CEP, we aim to provide a literacy-rich curriculum that celebrates high standards in every subject. We aim to motivate and inspire children through a curriculum that engages and allows all of our learners the opportunity to flourish and become "Agents of Change".
Our curriculum has three key pillars, these are our threads and underpin all of our individual subjects.
Wisdom
Inclusive
Resilience
Our curriculum is designed to deepen knowledge and develop skills, allowing opportunity for wisdom, with literacy at the heart, ensuring effective progression within each subject discipline and across all year groups. Our ambition is to develop the 'whole child', celebrating inclusiveness and nurturing children's talents; celebrating their achievements and successes; ensuring that every child can "find their thing" and nurturing the philosophy that "Nobody is good at everything but everybody is good at something"
The challenge offered to all children develop the opportunity for them to become resilient learners and successful Agents of Change.
At Gunnness and Burringham CEP, we implement an inclusive curriculum that meets the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. Our curriculum, is well-planned and provides literacy-rich, cross-curricular opportunities. There is an expectation that children will succeed and flourish.
Each term, all year groups have a 'focus theme', which links English to the wider curriculum. Teachers use carefully selected high-quality focus reading texts, relating to the History, Geography or Science focus themes, to deliver elements of the English curriculum.
Within the wider curriculum, teachers ensure that there are opportunities planned for children to further develop their skills and knowledge in all subjects.
Knowledge and vocabulary are fundamental within our curriculum. Lessons are well-planned to develop and increase children's knowledge, building on prior experiences and making connections in their learning. Children are immersed in and exposed to a diet of rich vocabulary, which is high-level and subject-specific, to extend their breadth of language.
Our curriculum is delivered through highly effective 'quality-first teaching'. We place high value on enrichment opportunities, including outdoor learning, inspirational visitors and exciting educational visits. This provides our children with rich experiences and enhances teaching and learning.
Our curriculum promotes children's Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development, ensuring that they are reflective and responsible citizens. Fundamental British Values are actively promoted in order to prepare the children for life in Modern Britain.
Our curriculum is continually shaped and developed to meet children's interests and needs, and is supported by practices based on credible research. Subject leaders work incredibly hard to lead their subjects, sharing their wealth of understanding, passion and expertise with the full staff team to ensure that standards are exceptionally high in all subjects taught.
Our curriculum will be measured by how effectively it helps our pupils develop into well rounded individuals who are ready and able to leave primary school with wisdom, resilience and the ability to become Agents of Change.
Our curriculum ensures that children are knowledgeable and skilled, achieve well and make excellent progress at each stage of their education. Through the breadth and depth that our curriculum offers, children have strong character traits and are rounded and grounded, confident and resilient, and well-equipped for the future. Our curriculum enables children to become articulate and enthusiastic learners, creative and physically competent, with high aspirations and ambition.
