Our Value for this half term is friendship. "Love your neighbour as yourself" Mark 12:31

Year 5/6 Mr Whitfield and Miss Sausby

Welcome to Years 5 & 6!

Welcome back!

Our Christian Value for this term is Friendship. As part of our Christian ethos we will be choosing worship councillors - more details on this to follow.

This half term we shall be studying about the local community and how Gunness and Burringham has changed since 1945.

We have already had some fantastic bits of research done already! If you do have anything else then please do let us know. Our English will support this and we'll be looking at recounts done by people in the forms of letters and articles. These skills will support our topic.

In maths we'll be learning to measure angles and look at decimals.

In DT the children will be learning all about mechanisms. They'll be able to look at how the Keadby Bridge was designed to open and have a go at making their own opening bridge.

On a Wednesday after during PPA Time, children will have PSHE and Citizenship and French.

We shall have PE on a Thursday afternoon, children will need their PE kits on these days.

Homework will be set on SeeSaw on a Friday and will be due in the following Friday. This all can be completed online. In addition to this children will need to read 3 times per week and have their reading records signed. Activities will also be set on TTRS and Spelling Shed.

There will be much more along the way too!

Welcome back!

Mr Whitfield and Miss Sausby

"The Explorer" - Experience Day 3 March 25th

As part of our English lessons we use the Jane Considine philosophies for the teaching of writing. When working on the book called "The Explorer" the children took part in an Experience Day and had to build a model raft. First they had to forage for the materials to build the raft, just as the children in the book did!

Science Week 2021 8th March - 12th March

The children returned back to school and took part in Science Week. For Years 5&6 this meant looking in to electric cars. They researched the history of cars and discovered that electric cars were actually developed at the same time as petrol driven cars! The week ended up with the children building their own model electric cars and taking part in a drag race!
